Count the Days Between Any Two Dates

The days between dates calculator finds the exact number of days from one date to another — and also shows the gap in weeks, a years-months-days breakdown, and approximate months and years. It handles leap years automatically.

How to Use It

  1. Pick a start date and an end date.
  2. Read the total days plus the weeks and Y/M/D breakdown.
  3. Tick Include the end date if you want to count both days (for durations).
  4. The result updates instantly as you change the dates.

Worked Example

From January 1, 2026 to March 1, 2026:

  • Total days: 59 days
  • Weeks: 8 weeks and 3 days
  • Y / M / D: 0 years, 2 months, 0 days

Tick Include the end date and it becomes 60 days, counting both January 1 and March 1.

Difference vs Duration

There are two common ways to count, and this tool supports both:

ModeWhat it countsExample
Difference (default)The gap between the datesMon to Fri = 4 days
Inclusive (end date included)Both endpointsMon to Fri = 5 days

Use difference for things like “how many days until,” and inclusive for things like hotel nights, event lengths or rental periods where both the first and last day count.

Why It Handles Leap Years Correctly

The total-day count is calculated from the actual calendar dates, so any February 29 that falls between your two dates is automatically included. The years-months-days breakdown borrows the correct number of days from the previous month, matching how people naturally count time.

Common Uses

  • Countdowns to weddings, holidays, exams or product launches.
  • Project planning and timeline estimates.
  • Age in days for fun or for records.
  • Loan, lease and rental periods where exact days matter.

Enter your two dates and get an accurate, instantly updating answer — no manual counting and no calendar-flipping required.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the number of days between two dates?+

Enter a start date and an end date. The calculator subtracts one from the other to give the total number of days, then also shows weeks, a years-months-days breakdown, and approximate months and years.

Should I include the end date in the count?+

It depends on what you are counting. Leave the box unchecked for the gap between dates (the standard difference). Tick Include the end date to count both the start and end days, which is useful for event durations and stays.

Does the calculator account for leap years?+

Yes. The day count is based on the real calendar, so February 29 in leap years is included automatically. The years-months-days breakdown also respects the actual length of each month.

What if my end date is before my start date?+

The calculator automatically swaps the dates and shows a note, so you always get a positive number of days regardless of the order you enter them in.

What can I use the days between dates calculator for?+

Use it to count down to an event, work out a project timeline, calculate age in days, measure a loan or rental period, plan a trip, or find out how long until a deadline or birthday.
