This Secret Santa generator takes a list of participants and instantly assigns who buys a gift for whom — with a guarantee that no one draws their own name. Add an optional budget and exchange date, click Draw names, and copy the finished list to share with your group.

How to Use It

1. Enter participants — type one name per line (at least three names).
2. Add details (optional) — set a gift budget like “$25” and an exchange date.
3. Click “Draw names” — the tool randomly pairs each giver with a receiver.
4. Copy the list — use the Copy button to paste it into a message or email.
5. Re-draw — click again any time to shuffle a fresh set of assignments.

How the Draw Works

A fair Secret Santa needs a derangement: a random arrangement where nobody is assigned to themselves. The tool shuffles the names and checks that no person maps to their own position. If the shuffle accidentally pairs someone with themselves, it reshuffles until the rule is satisfied, so every result is always valid.

For the group Alex, Jordan, Sam, Riley and Taylor, a valid draw might look like this:

Notice that no name appears opposite itself — that is the derangement rule in action.

Tips for a Great Exchange

• Set a clear budget so everyone spends roughly the same amount.
• Agree on an exchange date and add it to the generator so it appears on the copied list.
• Use unique names — add a last initial if two people share a first name, so the tool can tell them apart.
• Keep it secret — for an in-person reveal, the organizer can draw the list privately and tell each person only their own match.

Because everything runs in your browser, the names you type are never uploaded or stored. Close the tab and the data is gone.
