This is a self-screening tool, not a diagnosis.

This is a self-screening tool for educational purposes, not a diagnosis. It does not replace a professional evaluation. If you are struggling, contact a doctor or a crisis line (for example, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the US — call or text 988).

Over the last 2 weeks, how often have you been bothered by each problem? Answer honestly — there are no right or wrong answers.

A Free, Confidential Anxiety Self-Screening

This anxiety test uses the GAD-7 (Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7), a free, public-domain screening questionnaire used by doctors and clinics worldwide. It asks seven short questions about how you have felt over the last two weeks and gives you a score with supportive, plain-English guidance.

Important: this is a self-screening tool, not a diagnosis. No online test can diagnose an anxiety disorder. It does not replace a professional evaluation. Treat your result as a starting point for a conversation with a doctor or mental-health professional, not as an answer. If you are struggling, please reach out for support.

How to Use the Test

  1. Think about how you have felt over the last 2 weeks, not just today.
  2. For each of the seven questions, choose how often the problem has bothered you, from “Not at all” to “Nearly every day.”
  3. Tap See my result for your GAD-7 score and guidance.
  4. Tap Start over to retake it. Nothing is saved — the test runs only in your browser.

How the GAD-7 Is Scored

Each of the seven items is scored from 0 (Not at all) to 3 (Nearly every day), so the total ranges from 0 to 21. The higher the total, the more anxiety symptoms you reported over the last two weeks.

GAD-7 scoreAnxiety level
0–4Minimal
5–9Mild
10–14Moderate
15–21Severe

Worked Example

Suppose you answer “Nearly every day” (3 points) to two items, “More than half the days” (2 points) to two items, and “Several days” (1 point) to three items. Your total is (2 × 3) + (2 × 2) + (3 × 1) = 13, which falls in the moderate band. That score is a reasonable reason to talk with a doctor — but it is not a diagnosis.

What Your Score Means (and Does Not Mean)

A higher score means you reported more anxiety symptoms, which can be a meaningful prompt to seek a professional opinion. A lower score does not rule anything out, especially if you still feel distressed. Many symptoms on the GAD-7 overlap with stress, sleep problems, physical health conditions and other situations — which is exactly why an in-person assessment matters.

Help Is Available

Anxiety is very treatable. Talking therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), relaxation and breathing skills, regular activity, good sleep, and support from people you trust all help many people. If this screening has raised concerns, please consider talking with a doctor or mental-health professional — reaching out is a sign of strength.

If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, get help now: in the US, call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Anywhere else, contact your local emergency number or crisis service. You do not have to face this alone.

Frequently asked questions

Can this anxiety test diagnose me?+

No. This is a self-screening tool for educational purposes, not a diagnosis. It does not replace a professional evaluation. The GAD-7 helps you and a doctor talk about symptoms, but only a qualified professional can diagnose an anxiety disorder after a full assessment.

What is the GAD-7?+

The GAD-7 (Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7) is a free, public-domain questionnaire of seven items that match common anxiety symptoms. Each item is scored 0 to 3 for how often it has bothered you over the last two weeks, giving a total from 0 to 21. Clinicians use it widely as a screening and monitoring tool.

What is a normal GAD-7 score?+

A total of 0 to 4 suggests minimal anxiety, 5 to 9 mild, 10 to 14 moderate, and 15 to 21 severe. A score of 10 or more is the point at which many clinicians suggest a closer look. These bands are general guides, not diagnoses, and a doctor will interpret your score alongside your history.

Is this anxiety test confidential?+

Yes. The test runs entirely in your browser. Your answers are not sent anywhere, saved, or shared — nothing leaves your device. You can retake it as often as you like by tapping Start over.

What can help with anxiety?+

Anxiety is very treatable. Talking therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), relaxation and breathing skills, regular activity, good sleep, and sometimes medication all help many people. A doctor or therapist can help you find the right approach for you.
