What this tool does
This tool compresses an image down to 20KB or less and downloads it as a JPG, entirely in your browser. A 20KB limit is one of the strictest you will meet, common on older government portals, exam-form photo boxes, and tiny avatar uploads. Hitting it by hand is fiddly; this tool does it automatically with nothing uploaded.

How it works
The image is drawn on a canvas and re-encoded as JPEG. The tool searches for the highest quality that stays at or below 20KB. Because 20KB is so small, raising or lowering quality is rarely enough on its own, so the tool downscales the dimensions in roughly 15% steps and retries until the file fits. This is the same approach photo-upload kiosks use, just automated in your browser.

You have a 2MB passport-style photo and a form that caps uploads at 20KB.

Tips
- Expect smaller dimensions. At 20KB the tool almost always reduces width and height — that is normal.
- Crop first for ID photos. Removing empty background before compressing leaves more detail for the subject.
- Keep your original. The 20KB JPG is a one-way, lossy copy; store the full-quality version separately.
