How the Limerick Generator Works
A limerick is a five-line comic poem with a famous AABBA rhyme scheme and a bouncing rhythm. This generator builds one from rhyming line banks:
- Each style is a template containing several interchangeable A-rhyme lines and B-rhyme lines.
- The opening line stays fixed to set the scene.
- The tool randomly picks the remaining A lines (for positions 2 and 5) and B lines (for positions 3 and 4).
- The lines are assembled in AABBA order to form a complete, correctly rhymed limerick.

The AABBA Rhyme Scheme

Lines 1, 2 and 5 (the A lines) are longer and rhyme together; lines 3 and 4 (the B lines) are shorter and rhyme with each other. That contrast in length and the da-da-DUM beat give limericks their unmistakable sing-song feel.
