Biorhythms are a self-knowledge curiosity, not scientifically validated. Positive % is a high in that cycle, negative a low; near 0% on a rising or falling cross is a "critical" day.
What is a biorhythm calculator?
A biorhythm calculator works out how many days you have been alive and turns that count into three repeating sine waves — physical, emotional and intellectual — each expressed as a percentage from -100% to +100%. A positive value is a “high”, a negative value is a “low”, and a reading near 0% is a “critical” crossover day.
The tool needs just two inputs: your date of birth and a target date (today by default). From those it derives a single number — your days alive — and feeds it into three independent cycles. Everything runs in your browser, so no birth date leaves your device. Biorhythms are a long-standing self-knowledge curiosity, not a scientifically validated idea, so the output is best read as a prompt for reflection rather than a forecast.
How biorhythms are calculated
The method has two parts: count the days, then apply one formula per cycle.
First the calculator counts the days elapsed from your birth date to the target date. Call that days_alive. Then, for each cycle, it computes:
value = sin(2π × days_alive ÷ cycle) × 100%
The three cycles differ only by their period (the number of days for one full wave):
- Physical — period of 23 days (energy, strength, stamina).
- Emotional — period of 28 days (mood, sensitivity, creativity).
- Intellectual — period of 33 days (focus, memory, reasoning).
Because the input to sin is in radians, multiplying days_alive ÷ cycle by 2π scales one full period to a complete wave. The output of sin ranges from -1 to +1, so multiplying by 100 gives a percentage. At day 0 (birth) all three cycles start at exactly 0% and rising. Each then climbs to a +100% high a quarter of the way through its period, returns to 0% at the halfway point, drops to a -100% low at three-quarters, and crosses 0% again at the end before repeating.
Examples
Every example below follows the formula exactly. Try reproducing each one in the calculator above.
Example 1 — day 7 of life. With days_alive = 7, the physical value is sin(2π × 7 ÷ 23) × 100% = 94%, emotional is sin(2π × 7 ÷ 28) × 100% = 100%, and intellectual is sin(2π × 7 ÷ 33) × 100% = 97%. Day 7 lands almost on the emotional quarter-point (28 ÷ 4 = 7), so the emotional cycle hits its exact peak of +100%. All three are high.
Example 2 — day 14 of life. With days_alive = 14, physical is sin(2π × 14 ÷ 23) × 100% = -63%, emotional is sin(2π × 14 ÷ 28) × 100% = 0%, and intellectual is sin(2π × 14 ÷ 33) × 100% = 46%. Day 14 is exactly half of the 28-day emotional period, so emotional sits on a critical 0% crossover, the physical cycle has already swung into its low, and the intellectual cycle is still positive.
Example 3 — a real birth date (25 December 1990 checked on 9 June 2026). Counting the days between those dates gives days_alive = 12,950. Physical is sin(2π × 12,950 ÷ 23) × 100% = 27%, emotional is sin(2π × 12,950 ÷ 28) × 100% = 0%, and intellectual is sin(2π × 12,950 ÷ 33) × 100% = 46%. Here 12,950 is an exact multiple of 14 within the emotional cycle (12,950 mod 28 = 14), so emotional is again a critical day at 0%, while physical is mildly high and intellectual is solidly high.
Cycle reference
This table summarises each cycle and the position of its key points within one period. The themes are interpretive, not scientific.
| Cycle | Period | Quarter (peak +100%) | Half (critical 0%) | Three-quarter (low -100%) | Theme |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Physical | 23 days | day 5.75 | day 11.5 | day 17.25 | Energy, strength, stamina |
| Emotional | 28 days | day 7 | day 14 | day 21 | Mood, sensitivity, creativity |
| Intellectual | 33 days | day 8.25 | day 16.5 | day 24.75 | Focus, memory, reasoning |
Because the three periods share no common factor, the cycles drift in and out of phase and only realign — all at 0% and rising at once, as on your birthday — every 23 × 28 × 33 = 21,252 days, roughly 58 years.
Common uses
People reach for a biorhythm calculator for a handful of reasons:
- Daily check-ins, glancing at today’s three percentages as a journaling or mood prompt.
- Planning around highs and lows, such as eyeing a physical high before a big effort, purely for fun.
- Biorhythm compatibility, comparing two people’s charts on the same date to see where their cycles line up.
- Curiosity and content, plotting a meaningful past date or a public figure’s chart.
- Spotting critical days, the near-0% crossovers some readers treat as worth noting.
Tips and common mistakes
- Get the birth date exact. The whole result hinges on the day count, so a one-day error shifts every cycle slightly.
- Remember day 0 is the baseline, not a high. On your birthday all three cycles read 0% and are only just starting to rise.
- Read 0% as critical, not as “bad”. A near-zero value just means the cycle is crossing between its high and low halves.
- Do not over-read tiny differences. A jump from 40% to 45% is a smooth part of the same wave, not a meaningful shift.
- Mind regional date formats. Swapping day and month — easy when copying dates between formats — changes the day count and the whole chart.
Limitations and notes
This calculator is exact in the arithmetic sense: the same pair of dates always yields the same three percentages, and each value is just sin(2π × days_alive ÷ cycle). It runs entirely in your browser, so your birth date is never uploaded or stored.
That said, biorhythm theory is not scientifically validated. Controlled studies have failed to find any link between these 23-, 28- and 33-day cycles and real performance, mood or accidents, and the “critical day” idea has not held up to testing. Treat the output as entertainment and a self-knowledge curiosity, not as a prediction or as advice for any health, safety, financial or life decision.

Frequently asked questions
How does a biorhythm calculator work?+
It counts the days from your birth date to a target date, then for each cycle computes sin(2π × days ÷ period) × 100% using periods of 23, 28 and 33 days.
What are the three biorhythm cycles?+
The physical cycle is 23 days, the emotional cycle is 28 days, and the intellectual cycle is 33 days; each runs independently from your day of birth.
What does a critical biorhythm day mean?+
A critical day is when a cycle crosses zero — its value is near 0% as it switches between the high and low halves, which some readers treat as unstable.
What is my biorhythm if I was born on 25 December 1990, checked on 9 June 2026?+
That is 12,950 days alive, giving physical 27%, emotional 0% (a critical day) and intellectual 46%.
When do all three biorhythm cycles realign?+
Because 23, 28 and 33 share no common factors, all three return to 0% and rising together only every 23 × 28 × 33 = 21,252 days, about 58 years.
Does the calculator store my birth date?+
No. The whole calculation runs locally in your browser, so your birth date is never sent to a server or saved.
Is biorhythm scientifically proven?+
No. Biorhythm theory has been tested and not supported by evidence, so treat it as a self-knowledge curiosity rather than a prediction.
