How Oklahoma Paycheck Taxes Work
Your Oklahoma paycheck is your gross salary minus federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, and Oklahoma state income tax. This calculator applies the 2024 federal and Oklahoma rules to estimate your net (take-home) pay per pay period and per year, plus your effective tax rate.
Enter your annual gross salary, choose your pay frequency (annual, monthly, biweekly or weekly), and select your filing status (Single or Married filing jointly).

Federal Taxes
Federal income tax is progressive. For 2024 the standard deduction is $14,600 (Single) or $29,200 (Married filing jointly), and the remaining taxable income is taxed across the 10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32%, 35% and 37% brackets — each rate applying only to income inside its band.
FICA payroll taxes also apply: Social Security at 6.2% on the first $168,600 of 2024 wages, and Medicare at 1.45% on all wages, with an extra 0.9% on wages above $200,000 ($250,000 for married filing jointly).
Oklahoma State Income Tax
Oklahoma uses a graduated income tax for 2024 with six brackets running from 0.25% to a top rate of 4.75%. Tax applies to Oklahoma taxable income — your gross pay minus the Oklahoma standard deduction of $6,350 (Single) or $12,700 (MFJ).
The brackets are narrow, so almost every full-time worker reaches the 4.75% top rate quickly. For a single filer the 4.75% rate begins at just $7,200 of taxable income; for MFJ it begins at $12,200. The single-filer brackets are: 0.25% on the first $1,000, 0.75% to $2,500, 1.75% to $3,750, 2.75% to $4,900, 3.75% to $7,200, then 4.75% above that. MFJ thresholds are roughly double. Because most of your income sits in the top band, Oklahoma’s marginal rate behaves a lot like a near-flat 4.75% once you are well past the deduction.
Worked Example
A single filer earning $55,000 in Oklahoma:
- Federal taxable income = $55,000 − $14,600 = $40,400
- Federal income tax ≈ $4,616
- Social Security (6.2%) = $3,410
- Medicare (1.45%) = $797.50
- Oklahoma taxable = $55,000 − $6,350 = $48,650; Oklahoma income tax ≈ $2,122
- Total tax ≈ $10,946 → Net pay ≈ $44,054/year (about $3,671/month)
- Effective tax rate ≈ 19.9%
